Get in the Swing
Golf in Manitoba is a duffer’s dream, with 131 public and private golf courses to choose from, and remarkably reasonable green fees. Our courses, designed by the likes of Stanley Thompson, Les Furber, Norman H. Woods and native Manitoban J.A. Thompson, are landscaped gems that take full advantage of Manitoba’s rich natural assets - including parklands, water and wildlife. Deer, foxes, black bear, even the occasional wolf, have been spotted on our fairways. Choose high summer or early fall for your very own PGA tour.
Day 1
Winnipeg: Greens City
Winnipeg alone boasts a full two dozen
courses in or within a few minutes’ drive of
the city. Scenic Tuxedo Golf Course, built
in 1934, is surrounded by mature oak, pine,
poplar, maple and birch trees. Windsor Park’s
fairways curve invitingly around the pretty little
Seine River. Harbour View’s picturesque nine
holes are perfect for beginners, and heavilyforested
Kildonan Golf Course is set alongside
the mighty Red River. At the edge of the city,
John Blumberg Golf Course, billed as the
city’s premier public course, offers 27 holes
for golfers of all skill levels. And short drives
outside the city take avid golfers to scenic,
semi-public courses like Kingswood Golf and
Country Club or Larters at St. Andrews.
Day 2
An International Draw
Near the town of
Steinbach, 27-hole
Links at Quarry Oaks
is considered one
of Canada’s premier
courses. Created by
Canadian architect
L e s F u r b e r ,
Manitoba’s only
inland links-style
course received Four
Stars in Golf Digest’s Places to Play Magazine,
and was ranked in the top 100 Canadian courses
by Canada’s Score Magazine.
Day 3
Mother Nature Calling
Tee off in Manitoba’s Whiteshell* region at the
Falcon Lake Golf Course, and you’ll be playing
Manitoba’s second Stanley Thompson course,
in rugged Canadian Shield wilderness on the
shores of Falcon Lake. This course ranked
in the top 30, in Score Magazine’s Canadian
courses. Fairways here are fringed by thick
forest and interrupted by the lazily winding
Falcon Creek. Falcon Lake townsite offers
full amenities and after a round of golf,
hike, swim, fish, canoe or relax on the beach.
Day 4
Where Eagles Fly - Overhead
The 18-hole Hecla Golf Course, designed
by L.A. Thompson and set in Manitoba’s
Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park* on Lake
Winnipeg’s southwestern shore, is ranked
by Golf Course Ranking Magazine as one of
Canada’s top 25 golf resorts, and is considered
Manitoba’s top course. Fairways alternate views
onto vast Lake Winnipeg with stretches of
dense forest, and golfers may putt past
wandering Canada geese or drive onto
fairways while bald eagles soar overhead.
Day 5
Perhaps the Prettiest of All
Riding Mountain National Park* is home to
the favourite course of many Manitobans -
Clear Lake Golf Course. The province’s first
Stanley Thompson-designed course, ranked
among Canada’s top 30 takes full advantage
of its proximity to dark sapphire-coloured
Clear Lake and the surrounding Parkland
wilderness with its rolling hills, copses of thick
forest, and natural streams. Unwind from a
day on the links with a stroll through the resort
town of Wasagaming, play a little tennis, treat
yourself to a spa, or go canoeing or swimming
- there’ll be plenty of time because the summer
sun doesn’t set in Manitoba until well after ten
at night.
